Description
Strange Ford 9 inch Rear End with HD Pro Aluminum Center Section, Spool
Hy-Tuf Race Axles, and Leaf Spring Mounts
Strange Engineering has designed improvements to the Ford 9 inch rear ends for the automotive industry. One such application is the Strange 9 inch rear end for Leafspring Applications that includes mounts, ends, fill, drain, & vent.
Strange has increased the strength of the Ford 9 inch in several different ways. The Strange 9 inch housing is a semi-floating, drop-out axle. Because of its strength you will see these 9 inch rear ends in just about every make of car, not just Fords.
This 9 inch Rear End has internal gussets provide rigidity and support axle tubes.
Slots allow exceptional weld contact of housing to tubes. Extended cover allows clearance for 9″ and 9 1/2″ gear sets
The Ford 9 inch housing has a vast amount of ford 9 inch gear ratios available. This combined with easy assembly makes it popular for fine tuning your rear gear for any particular need. Strange Engineering is the most recognized name in the aftermarket industry when it comes to Ford 9 inch rears. From high performance street cars to Pro Mod, Strange Ford 9 inch housings are relied on by more racers than all other manufacturers combined.
The Strange HD Pro Ford 9 inch Aluminum Third Member With Spool is designed for Drag Race applications and for the most abusive Hi-Performance street/strip applications. As with all Strange aluminum cases, it is crafted from 206-T4 heat treated aluminum. This premium aluminum has a 12% higher yield strength and a 32% higher tensile strength compared to commonly used 356-T6 aluminum.
The billet aluminum pinion support has a unique oil channel that is machined 360º into the support to maximize oil flow to the pinion bearings as well as a large slot in the front to further boost oil circulation. The support is in contact with the bore of the case in two locations as opposed to one as found in normal cases. This additional contact area holds the pinion shaft much more securely resulting in better bearing and gear life. The tail bearing is oversized to handle more load and greater RPM than a stock tail bearing. Billet aluminum main caps encapsulate chrome-moly studs, provide the utmost support for the carrier bearings and significantly reduce ring gear deflection.
Strange’s top seller is the Hy-Tuf 35 Spline Axles
Strange Pro Race Axles are made from a steel alloy that was originally intended for use in military aircraft landing gear. Hy-Tuf is in a class of ultra-strength alloys configured with a low concentration of carbon and high degrees of manganese, nickel, and molybdenum steel. Strange Pro Race Axles are through-hardened to a tensile strength of 240,000 psi allowing them to retain the necessary degree of ductility required for elite level drag racing.
We Cut Before Heat Treatment, Not After.
Strange Hy-Tuf Drag Race axles are thru hardened. This specific type of heat treatment hardens the axle all the way to it’s core providing exceptional torsional strength.
We can not stress enough the importance that Strange Engineering does all of its machine work on the splines prior to heat treatment. This allows for consistent heat treat depth, leading to a stronger axle. Be aware that some companies induction heat-treat the material before the splines are machined into the axle, which causes it to be weaker despite the shiny look.
Strange axles are typically manufactured with a larger than stock axle bearing diameter area. This provides more strength in an area that may see additional stress due to tire shake.
Popular Ford, Mopar, and GM applications.
